This blog is moving.....

Really, just shut down and some of the content will move to my other blog http://thefarmersdaugherdesign.blogspot.com/. I have to consolate these blogs for my own sanity. I can handle three blogs....not 6. The farmers daughter site will have art, vintage finds (and items on my Etsy site) and style and design. Kind of a bit of everything...just like my life.

I promise to update more over there...not everyday probably, but often.

thanks!

the next chair project....

this was 2 bucks. It's got metal legs and a wood back. The seat comes off easily enough. I'll need to paint the legs, re stain the wood and re cover the seat. Actually, new foam and wood on that seat- I believe it has seen some water damage.

The cubby project

Due to my aversion to chemical fumes, I have decided NOT to stain the cubby piece until the weather gets better and I can get on the porch at least. 18 degrees and snow is NOT staining weather.

I have pottery on the shelves right now, but plan on putting baskets in them in the future.  So far, it's working well. I just need to keep it from being a crap collector.

The latest project- a cubby

the mr. got this out of an old barn for 4 bucks. It's probably been in there for 40 or more years. It had oil dripped on it and more bird shit and mouse droppings than I really want to think about. We cleaned it, sanded it, cleaned it some more and found out that the trim (under the blue tape in this picture) was birds eye maple. The inside was just junk wood.

The project is to paint the inside junk black, the maple stained clear and to use it as a cubby and desk organizer on the computer table in the kitchen...

Here it is with the insides painted black...

Next, it's on to the staining....

My big dog used to be a reddish brown Brindle chiweenie

That is a chihuahua/dachshund  hybrid.  He's 14 now, and no longer red, or any color other than grey.... but he's the reason this site is named the way it is....

here is chuy...my (not so big, not so red)dog

He sleeps a lot, unless....

You ask him if he wants to go outside.. then it's all ears up, tail waggin, running around in circles joy....

love 'em while you can

some people suck at craigslist...

I hear stories from my friends in others locations about the great stuff they pick up on craiglist all the time (furniture-not people) and I am jealous. WHY?

Because this is the kind of crap that is on my local craigslist (under antiques mind you!)

Just so you know, the chair is what is for sale in this picture- for 5 dollars....

Karma

Hoping to feed the Karma machine, I took in three bags of assorted items to the local thrift store.... I'm on a bit of a dry spell right now. I did get a large box of deer antlers on skull caps and one head for 2 bucks... it doesn't make for a really appetising picture though.....hopefully I have more to report soon!

Uncle Kracker - Smile

Uncle Kracker - Smile: "Happy Hour"

If you watch it, then you see the area I am from, northern Michigan. This was actually filmed in Hale and Long Lake, near me and the area looks the same as mine.

It's fall now, the leaves are changing, the AC is out of the window and my winter curtains are up. We tested the furnace today to make sure it was working. But this video reminds me of what it was like just a few weeks ago....

If I were to ever have a store...

this is the one I would want it to be.... Room Service Vintage in Austin Texas.

When I lived there I would visit once or twice a week and get the most fantastic things as reasonable prices. The stock is amazing, and they get new things in all the time. Visit the website and find yourself coveting their furniture... and everything else.

I'm coming back home next summer and I can't wait!

Here's some teasers....

love the light- not so much on kitty kitty.....

Some things should just be saved....

Like this quarter sawn oak table top. It was my Mother in Laws Grandmothers table. I think that's the way it goes at least, and she would have passed away in the influenza epidemic of 1918. Somewhere along the line it lost it's bottom half and it lived in my MIL's basement for many years. She brought it to our garage sale and we kept it instead.

It was a nasty dark brown dirt color when we got it, and we sanded it down to this...

we also took a plain pine box that my FIL had and cut it down to coffee table height- you can see the box in the top left corner. We sanded the hell out of that too...

and then I stained them.

After a coat of poly (if it EVER stops raining) the top will then sit on the bottom box and it will become a very large living room coffee table for us.

It will be big enough for the boy to do homework on, very sturdy and  we'll be able to play games and even do some light snacking while watching tv.

plywood industrial style stool... not very old (only the 1980s) but we might be using it downstairs at the bar....
